LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — Work on an amphitheater at the Johnston Ridge Observatory is nearly completed, just as the volcano visitors’ center prepares to shut down Oct. 30 for the winter.

The Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/pWMbmd ) the amphitheater is part of $600,000 in improvements to the Forest Service observatory this year.

It will seat more than 100 for outdoor presentations about the volcano.
