Indiana’s Maurice Creek tears Achilles tendon

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana guard Maurice Creek has had surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, his third significant injury in three years with the Hoosiers.

It’s not clear how long Creek will be out.

The school said Monday that Creek injured his left leg off of the basketball court. Creek missed most of his freshman season with a broken left kneecap. In January, he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right kneecap and did not play again.

Coach Tom Crean calls the latest injury a “devastating blow” to a player who had worked hard to become a key player for Indiana this season.

Creek has played in 30 games at Indiana, averaging 11.5 points and shooting 37.1 percent from 3-point range.
