ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have started 5-0 for the first time since 1956, the year before their last NFL title.

Detroit coach Jim Schwartz refuses to be satisfied. He says the Lions need to improve by Sunday’s game at home to beat the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers.

Detroit beat the Bears 24-13 in its first Monday night game in a decade despite 12 penalties that cost them 94 yards and gave Chicago four first downs.

Matthew Stafford missed some throws, the Detroit defense didn’t slow down Matt Forte and the Bears had the ball for 39 minutes — nearly double the time of possession for the Lions.
