INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA will consider adding an agent registry and sports counseling panel to help college athletes make decisions about pro careers.
No formal proposals are currently on the table. But the NCAA says it is considering some moves to address sports agents, who have been tied to some of the recent scandals in college sports.
Anybody seeking to represent players would have to provide contact information and employee lists to the NCAA. The registry would provide that information, along with disciplinary actions against individual agents, to players and schools.
The Division I Amateurism Cabinet also wants to form an advisory panel that would help players gather information on their pro prospects, contract details and agent interaction. The panel could include pro athletes or former professional athletes and legal experts.
