DETROIT (AP) — Tigers outfielder Delmon Young has been scratched from the starting lineup for Tuesday night’s AL championship series game against the Texas Rangers.

Detroit had initially left Young off its ALCS roster because of what was then described as a left oblique injury that he aggravated in the AL division series against the New York Yankees. Further tests showed that might not be the real issue.

Young returned to play in Game 2 of the ALCS on Monday after Magglio Ordonez re-fractured his right ankle. Young was listed in Tuesday’s lineup, as well, but Tigers manager Jim Leyland said during a pregame news conference that Young was hurting too much to play. Leyland indicated Andy Dirks would replace him in the lineup.
