MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. (AP) — Witnesses in Myrtle Creek, Ore., say an angry gunman wounded a real estate agent in a parking lot, then confronted police officers, who shot him when he refused to drop his weapon.
KDRV reports that Roseburg police say the gunman has died. Associated Press calls to Roseburg police were referred to Douglas County sheriff’s Deputy Dwes Hutson, who did not immediately return a phone message Wednesday night.
A Mercy Medical Center spokeswoman said the injured man, identified by the Roseburg News-Review as Vince Lytsell, was in fair condition.
A real estate agent at Village Realty, Scott Barraza, tells the newspaper that the gunman burst into the realty office Wednesday, screaming and waving a revolver. Barraza says the gunman blamed Lytsell for marital problems. The men ran out into the parking lot, where Lytsell was wounded.
Witnesses say police confronted the gunman about a block away, yelling repeatedly for him to drop his weapon. Witness Hanna Hulska says she heard the gunman asking officers to shoot him, heard a shot and saw him drop.
