Portland — The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality wants to hear citizens’ comments on a proposed plan to put dredged Columbia River sediment on Portland’s West Hayden Island.

The Port of Portland requested permission to move the sediment from the dredging of 20,000 to 40,000 cubic yards of material from the Columbia River, done to maintain safe navigation of the river. The DEQ has proposed approving that plan.

A public information session is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24, at the Park Room of the Jantzen Beach mall, 1275 Jantzen Beach Center in Portland. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
