WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — Walla Walla grocery store clerk Neil Dillon has been spending his spare time bagging groceries.

He’s practicing for the Best Bagger Championship Finals sponsored by the Washington Food Industry Association Oct. 26 in Spokane. A win there would send him to the nationals in February in Las Vegas.

Dillon has worked more than 16 years on a checkout line and has the backing of his bosses at Harvest Foods.

He told the Union-Bulletin (http://bit.ly/qv6ft9 ) he hopes his practiced “building technique” gives him the edge over competitors he expects will be younger and faster.
