STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s basketball teams are playing in front of their fans for the first time since the men brought home the program’s third national championship and the women returned from their 12th Final Four.

But much of the talk Friday night at the teams’ joint “First Night” practice was about the possibility of Central Florida joining the conference as a basketball member.

Coach Jim Calhoun said Central Florida has great potential and great facilities, but he was more concerned with this season.

About 10,000 fans crowded into Gampel Pavilion for the videos, dancing, dunks and 3-point contests Friday.

The first actual practice for the men takes place Saturday morning. The women already have played several exhibition games, on a trip to Italy in August.
