ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) — Tommy Gooden ran for a touchdown and Casey Therriault threw for another as Jackson State rallied to beat Mississippi Valley State 17-16 on Saturday.

After a Jabril Smith field goal drew Jackson State (6-1, 4-1 Southwest Athletic Conference) within 3 points, 6-3. Tommy Gooden capped off a 5-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run that gave the Tigers a 10-6 lead early in the third quarter.

Marin Pittman’s 45-yard run put MVSU (0-7, 0-6) back on top 13-10 but Therriault connected with Gooden 30 seconds later on a 75-yard touchdown pass that gave Jackson State the lead for good.

Gooden finished with 88 yards on 12 carries and 101 yards receiving while Therriault added 71 yards on the ground and 254 through the air.

MVSU ran the ball well racking up 229 rushing yards but the Delta Devils committed 14 penalties and only converted 4-of-15 on third downs.
