KENT, Ohio (AP) — Zac Dysert threw the game’s only touchdown and the Miami (Ohio) defense was stifling, leading the RedHawks to a 9-3 victory over Kent State on Saturday.
Freddy Cortez opened the scoring with a 32-yard field goal less than three minutes into the first quarter for the Golden Flashes — the only points they’d score the rest of the way.
After a scoreless second quarter, Dysert’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens would be the deciding score for Miami (2-4, 1-1, Mid-American Conference). Redhawks linebacker C.J. Marck sacked Spencer Keith in the end zone for a safety with 10:17 to play, sealing the game.
Kent State (1-6, 0-3) outgained Miami 244-166 in total yards and forced two turnovers versus just one secured by the RedHawks, but were 3 of 17 on third down and 0 of 2 on fourth down.
Dysert finished 13 of 27 for 125 yards for Miami.
