Barge sinks in Gig Harbor, spilling oil

GIG HARBOR, Wash. (AP) — The state Department of Ecology is responding after a barge carrying a 5-ton crane sank, spilling an unknown amount of oil.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports (http://bit.ly/pS7gWu ) that the barge is owned by a company called Marine Floats, which has deployed boom and absorbent materials to help contain the spill.

The barge sank Saturday morning.
