SEATTLE (AP) — Environmental specialists from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Washington Department of Ecology are working Sunday to assess oil spill damage to the Washington shoreline where a sunken vessel was removed Saturday.
A helicopter flew over at sunrise to assess diesel evaporation and no fuel ribbons were seen.
The shore assessment team also found no evidence of oil on the shore, although some oil was spotted on a Seattle beach on Saturday.
Crews using a large crane raised the 73-foot vessel, call the Justin, that sank off the Seattle coast. It has been transported by barge to Tacoma for repairs.
The Justin was being used in a bulkhead project in Puget Sound when it sank Friday, leaking an unknown amount of diesel.
