Aplin leads Arkansas State over Fla. International

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Ryan Aplin ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead Arkansas State to a 34-16 victory over Florida International on Tuesday night.

Aplin, who rushed for 164 yards and passed for 147, scored on runs of 22 and 7 yards and hit Allen Muse on a 4-yard scoring pass as the Red Wolves (5-2, 3-0 Sun Belt) won their fourth straight game. Derek Lawson scored on a 9-yard run.

FIU (4-3, 1-2) trailed 13-6 early in the third quarter, but a 46-yard touchdown pass from Wes Carroll to T.Y. Hilton and a 44-yard field goal by Jack Griffin gave the Panthers a 16-13 lead. Arkansas State scored the game’s final three touchdowns.

In the first half the teams swapped field goals. Arkansas State’s Bobby Zalad made a 49-yarder on the final play of the half to make it 6-6.
