Local students earn degrees from WSU

The following Washington State University local students have earned undergraduate degrees following the summer 2011 semester.

They include:

Camas: Robert James Allen, bachelor of arts in humanities; Annie Jung-Hoon Kang, B.A. in social sciences; Karen L. Knight, B.A. in human development, magna cum laude; Angelica Jo Ellen Liebhaber, B.A. in business administration; Shelby Anne Madsen, B.A. in communication; Cathy F. Manwell, B.A. in digital technology and culture, magna cum laude; Rachel Lynne Matthews, B.A. in social sciences.

Washougal: Lee Robert Aspitarte, bachelor of science in physics; Tawna Hobensack, B.A. in social sciences, cum laude; Timothy Allan Johnson, B.S. in psychology; Rosalyn Ellen Lamb, B.A. in human development, cum laude; Kayla Ashley Schmid, B.S. in biology; Kristen Leigh Watts, B.A. in digital technology and culture.

Skills center to serve dinner

A five-course dinner featuring roasted chicken with apple stuffing, roasted butternut squash soup, shallot-sauteed locally-grown green beans and caramel white chocolate bread pudding highlight the first open-to-the-public gourmet dinner presented by the students of the Skills Center Restaurant Management/Culinary Arts program.

“Celebrating the Northwest’s Bounty” begins at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4 in the Skills Center restaurant, 12200 N.E. 28th St., Vancouver. The meal is planned, hosted, prepared and served by the students enrolled in the American Culinary Federation-certified program.

Tickets are $25 per person ($12.50 tax deductible) and must be purchased in advance by calling 604-1054.

Camas Roots Garden plans work party

Youth and adult volunteers are invited to participate in a garden work party at the Camas Roots Garden from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The date coincides with the National Day of Service. Volunteers will help clean up the garden beds for winter, including weeding and mulching. Volunteers are welcome to come for all or part of the afternoon. All tools are provided. Refreshments will be served.

Camas Roots is a partnership between the Camas School District and community volunteers. All produce from the garden is donated to the Inter-faith Treasure House food bank.

The garden is located just west of the JD Zellerbach administration building, 841 N.E. 22nd Ave. For more information call 833-0925.

Grass Valley Vocal Jazz needs votes

Grass Valley Vocal Jazz is in the running for a potential $10,000 to $50,000 cash prize from GLEE and the National Association for Music Education.

Director Natalie Wilson is asking that people vote once per day from now until Monday, Nov. 7. Those with the greatest number of public votes will proceed to the final stage. To vote, go to www.gleegiveanote.com and follow instructions. Include the words “Grass Valley Elementary” under the school name tab.

Dine out to support Prune Hill Elementary

On Thursday, Nov. 10, 360 Pizzeria in Camas will donate 100 percent of its profits for the day to Prune Hill Elementary School during lunch, happy hour or dinner between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.

360 Pizzeria is located at 3425 S.E. 192nd Ave., Camas.
