Washington state adds net 27,300 jobs

Employers in Washington state added a net 27,300 jobs in the past 12 months, the state Employment Security Department reported Wednesday.

That year-over-year net job growth includes an estimated gain of 44,600 private-sector jobs and a loss of 17,300 government jobs.

The state’s unemployment rate dropped from 9.3 percent in August to an estimated 9.1 percent in September.

An estimated 317,594 people in Washington state were unemployed and looking for work in September, and 202,915 of them received $229 million in unemployment benefits. As of Oct. 8, 62,229 workers in the state had run out of all unemployment benefits.
