Letter: Expectations unrealistic

As a student at Heritage High School I’ve watched as hundreds of kids carelessly throw their lunch trash away, and each time I’m not surprised to see that none of them care to separate the plastic from the paper or the food items from the plastic bottles. So why don’t we care about saving the environment?

Well, if I’m like most of the other kids at my school, then the answer is simple. It’s just not worth the time and energy to do so. We all have things to do, places to go, and people to see. I think that the idea of students recycling their garbage in school is a complete waste of money, especially the school compost bins. If we completely ignore this effort then there is no point to it at all.
