The Washington State Employment Security Department will lay off 222 more employees, including 11 in Clark County, in January, the department said Friday. The department, which administers the state’s jobless insurance and runs the WorkSource system to connect employers and job seekers, already has cut its staff by about 300 in the past year, according to The Seattle Times.

In an email to The Columbian Friday, Sheryl Hutchison, communications director for the Employment Security Department, said 11 people would be laid off in Clark County — nine from the Vancouver WorkSource office and two from the Vancouver district tax office.

The Employment Security Department currently employs 2,400.
