The Columbian

Camas — The Camas-Washougal Community Chest wrapped up its most successful campaign ever, giving 18 grants to community organizations in 2011, totaling more than $58,600.

Programs supported included the local food bank, East County Family Resource Center, local Boy Scout troops, maintenance for the J.D. Currie Youth camp and scholarships for students studying abroad. Other grants purchased food for the local Loaves and Fishes, help set up “Brush with Kindness,” a new Habitat for Humanity home painting program and provided swimming scholarships through the Friends of Camas Community Center.

Major support came from the Georgia Pacific Foundation, mill, and families. Other donors included Camas Public School employees, Pendleton Woolen Mill employees, Exterior Wood Inc., and David Moss and family.
