NEW YORK (AP) — Sixteenth-seeded Ana Ivanovic advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open after Petra Cetkovska withdrew because of a quadriceps injury Thursday.

Ivanovic matched her best showing at Flushing Meadows in 2010 by making the fourth round after getting upset early the previous two years. She will face 23rd-seeded Shahar Peer or American Sloane Stephens.

Cetkovska was hurt while making the deepest run of her career last week at New Haven, where she lost to No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the final. The 32nd-ranked Czech was able to play through the pain in beating Evgeniya Rodina in three sets in the first round, but didn’t feel Thursday that she was healthy enough to have a chance to win.
