PORTLAND — Northwest Natural Gas Co. expects to reduce Southwest Washington rates by 1.7 percent, reflecting the lower cost of wholesale natural gas, the company announced Thursday. If its request with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission were approved, a residential customer using 58 therms of gas would save $1.13 per month.

The rate request may change slightly before mid-October, when Northwest Natural must submit its final request to state regulators, depending on fluctuations in the price of natural gas.
