VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A Vancouver, Wash., woman who never met the 16 permanent residents of the Oregon Primate Rescue has left them $80,000 after her death.
Trudy Banks is executor of Jean Barr’s estate. She says the woman who died in May at age 71 had never liked the fact that monkeys were used for experiments. Banks presented the check this week to the rescue’s founder, Polly Schultz, at the operation’s 28-acre sanctuary near Longview, Wash.
Schultz calls the money “a blessing” in difficult economic times.
The Columbian reports (http://bit.ly/rtsVTC) that the Oregon Primate Rescue opened in 1998 in Dallas, Ore., then relocated to Longview in 2008 on land from a private donation. The monkeys Schultz cares for either were abused or came from science labs.
