Devils scout Les ‘Doc’ Widdifield dies at 86

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Longtime New Jersey Devils scout Les ‘Doc’ Widdifield has died. He was 86.

The Devils announced the death of Widdifield on Friday, saying he died in his hometown of Saskatoon in Canada. He had been the Devils’ Western Canadian Scout for nearly 25 years and was still working at the time of his death.

Widdifield joined the organization in 1986, being hired by his friend and former Devils general manager, Max McNab.

Current Devils president Lou Lamoriello called Widdifield a caring, family man.

Funeral services were on Friday in his hometown.
