CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. will play Honduras on Oct. 8 in Miami, giving new coach Jurgen Klinsmann a head start on scouting for World Cup qualifying.

The Americans begin qualifying for the 2014 tournament in Brazil next summer, and Honduras could be one of their opponents. The U.S. clinched its spot in last year’s World Cup with a 3-2 victory over Honduras in San Pedro Sula on Oct. 10, 2009. Honduras qualified for South Africa four days later when the U.S. rallied to tie Costa Rica.

The U.S. has an 11-3-3 record against Honduras. But one of the Honduran wins came in the teams’ last meeting, a 3-1 decision on Jan. 23, 2010, in Carson, Calif.

The game will be the first for the U.S. men in Miami since 2004.
