CLINTON, S.C. (AP) — Mitch Allen’s 26-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Ashley with 51 seconds left gave Wofford a 35-28 win over Presbyterian in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.
Ashley had two catches, each for a touchdown, for a total of 70 yards. His first was a 41-yard TD from Lavadrick Farrar early in the third quarter, and his second capped an 80-yard, six-play drive that took 1:30 off the clock.
The Terriers led 28-7 midway through the third quarter before the Blue Hose scored 21 straight points. Ryan Singer threw a 4-yard TD to Joey Gilkey with 58 seconds left in the third quarter, and Demarcus Rouse ran for a 4-yard score to pull Presbyterian within 28-21 with 10:15 left to play. Lance Byrd’s 4-yard run tied it with 3:32 to go.
Wofford overcame 127 yards of penalties with a strong running attack, gaining 352 yards on 56 carries.
