WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Lehigh scored on its first three possessions and opened the season with a 49-24 rout of Monmouth on Saturday.

Chris Lum, the Mountain Hawks senior quarterback, passed for 346 yards and four touchdowns — two to Ryan Spadola, one of them a 72-yarder. Zach Barket, who rushed for two touchdowns, also caught a scoring pass from Lum.

Lehigh scored on its first three possessions behind Lum, who completed 22 of 34 passes. The Mountain Hawks, the defending Patriot League champions, won their season opener for the second straight year.

In Monmouth’s season opener, Kyle Frazier was 22-for-39 passing for 225 yards and one touchdown. Tyler George caught eight of those passes for 72 yards, but Monmouth was no match for Lehigh’s offense. The Mountains Hawks totaled 529 yards.

Lehigh took a 42-10 lead into the fourth quarter and coasted the rest of the way.
