FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Michael Rios had two touchdowns and combined with Kevin Fitzpatrick for the majority of Marist’s receiving yards in a 20-7 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Fitzpatrick had 119 yards on eight catches and Rios 122 yards on three catches, accounting for all but 47 of the Red Foxes’ receiving yards.
The Pioneers’ only score came on Tim Little’s 5-yard run with 2:18 left in the first quarter.
Marist’s Chuckie Looney, who had 278 yards and an interception on 15 of 26 passing, hit Rios for a 43-yard TD to tie it at 7-all with 13:45 left in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Looney connected with Anthony Calcagni on a 10-yard touchdown pass to take the lead. Looney connected with Rios again, this time on a 47-yard score, to seal it — despite a failed extra point.
