PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pedro Alvarez, Pittsburgh’s starting third baseman on opening day, was among six players the Pirates added to their roster.
Alvarez, along with left-handed pitchers Jeff Locke, Aaron Thompson and Daniel Moskos, were recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
The Pirates also purchased the contract of right-hander Jared Hughes from Indianapolis and activated right-hander Evan Meek (shoulder) from the 60-day disabled list.
To make room on the 40-man roster, Kevin Correia and Paul Maholm — the team’s top two starters entering the season — were transferred to the 60-day disabled list, officially ending their seasons.
