VILNIUS, Lithuania (AP) — Brothers Marc and Pau Gasol combined for 43 points to lead defending champion Spain past Germany 77-68 Wednesday at the European basketball championship.

Marc Gasol scored 24 points and older brother Pau, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, added 19. Spain led throughout most of the match.

Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks led Germany with 19 points, while Chris Kaman of the Los Angeles Clippers added 15 points.

Some sloppy plays down the stretch left Germany close to missing its target of making the quarterfinals.
