NIAMEY, Niger (AP) — An official in Niger’s capital of Niamey says Moammar Gadhafi’s security chief has entered the capital in a convoy.

Customs official Harouna Ide says Mansour Dao was at the head of the convoy when it entered the city early Tuesday. He says other Libyan convoys are south of Agadez, a town in central Niger, a desert country which borders Libya to the south.

A witness saw a large convoy of Libyan soldiers accompanied by Tuareg tribal fighters leave Agadez on Tuesday morning and drive toward the capital. It isn’t clear if Gadhafi family members are in the heavily armed group.
