ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — A Pakistani commission investigating the U.S raid on Osama bin Laden has banned a Pakistani doctor who assisted the CIA before the operation from leaving Pakistan.

Dr Shakil Afridi ran a phony vaccination program in the Pakistani town where the al-Qaida leader was believed to be living in an effort to obtain a DNA sample from him

Afridi is being detained by Pakistani authorities but has not yet been charged with any crime.

U.S. officials want him released, and there has been speculation he may try to leave Pakistan.

The government-appointed commission said in a statement Tuesday that Afridi and other people who are wanted for questioning are banned from leaving Pakistan without special clearance.
