EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa remains day to day while recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.

Persa was a late scratch for last week’s opener at Boston College and watched as Kain Colter led the Wildcats to a 24-17 victory. Their next game is at home against Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

At his weekly news conference Monday, coach Pat Fitzgerald ruled out defensive lineman Jack DiNardo because of a leg injury and said he would “list as day-to-day” anyone who sat out last week. He declined further comment about injuries.

A senior being touted by the school as a Heisman Trophy candidate, Persa was injured after throwing the winning touchdown pass against Iowa last November. Northwestern then dropped its final three games without him.
