ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Rex Grossman is getting his long-awaited next chance to lead an NFL team from the opening bell. John Beck has to turn his patience meter on once again.

Both spoke Wednesday about the outcome of the Washington Redskins quarterback competition, two days after coach Mike Shanahan named Grossman the starter for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Grossman hasn’t started in Week 1 since 2007 with the Chicago Bears. He says “anytime something gets taken away from you and then you get it back, you have a different outlook.”

Beck says he knew either he or Grossman would get the job, and that the other one would be upset. He says the fact that he lost isn’t going to keep him from trying to get better.
