SEATTLE (AP) — The National Weather Service is warning of high wildfire danger over most of Washington’s Cascades and Olympics.
Forecasters say the red flag warning extends through Wednesday night because warm, dry weather created conditions for explosive fire growth.
One fire has burned about 200 acres in the Brothers Wilderness area on the Olympic Peninsula southwest of Brinnon. Called the Big Hump fire, it started Aug. 31 and is burning timber in steep terrain. No homes are threatened and fire managers plan to let it burn itself out.
A community meeting about the fire is planned at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Brinnon Community Center.
