EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says a missing hiker was found dead Wednesday morning on Mount Pilchuck.

The 29-year-old man, believed to be from Bellingham, became separated from friends Tuesday, possible to take a shortcut. They waited for him at the trailhead until 8 p.m. before calling for help.

Searchers found the body quite a ways from where he had been hiking.

The sheriff’s office says he apparently lost the trail and was killed in an accident.
