EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says the body of a hiker who fell off a 300-foot cliff on Mount Pilchuck was recovered Wednesday by a helicopter.

The county medical examiner’s office has not yet released the name of the man who is believed to be a 29-year-old from Bellingham.

The sheriff’s office says he became separated from friends Tuesday, possibly to take a shortcut. They waited for him at the trailhead until 8 p.m. before calling for help.

Searchers found the body Wednesday morning at the base of the cliff, quite a ways from where they had been hiking.
