SEATTLE (AP) — The Building Industry Association of Washington that was once known as a big backer of Republican candidates and causes has changed its political stance under new leadership.

The association put $6 million into Dino Rossi’s attempt to unseat Gov. Chris Gregoire in 2008 and was known for harsh criticism of the Democrat governor.

The Seattle Times reports (http://bit.ly/nhmBJl ) the association has mended fences with the governor and the state Department of Labor and Industries.

Pat McBride, who is serving a one-year term as president, says the BIAW intends to be a player in 2012 campaigns, but he says it will be smarter and support candidates who are housing friendly wherever they come from.
