WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Police have arrested two men and seized Rugby World Cup tickets worth $415,000 in an operation to shut down a fraud ring.
New Zealand media reports Saturday said a total of 933 tickets to a range of matches were recovered along with cash in raids on two properties.
Detective superintendent Andy Lovelock said “close co-operation between New Zealand Police, Customs and Immigration has led to the cracking of an organized crime group which fraudulently purchased Rugby World Cup 2011 tickets.”
He said the tickets had been purchased outside New Zealand using stolen credit cards. Two men appeared in an Auckland court Friday charged with being part of an organized criminal enterprise.
