OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Authorities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast say a high school football player has died after being taken to a hospital from a Friday night game.

Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus tells The Sun Herald that D’Iberville High School football player Latrell “Fred” Dunbar was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. Friday at Ocean Springs Hospital.

D’Iberville was playing at Gautier.

WLOX-TV reports Dunbar was given CPR on the field before the medics arrived.

Dunbar, a running back, was a senior at D’Iberville High School. It was not immediately clear what caused his death.
