DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was not in the lineup Friday due to soreness in his left hip.

He said he wasn’t sure how the soreness developed, but said the hip bothered him when he took swings in the indoor batting cage before Friday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Tulowitzki said he anticipated being able to play Saturday. Manager Jim Tracy said, “We’re hopeful that it’s just maybe a day, maybe a day or so. I’m not certain on the amount of time.”

Chris Nelson was activated Friday and was scheduled to start in place of Tulowitzki at shorstop. Nelson was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Colorado Springs but was nursing a bruised left heel when he returned to the Rockies.
