SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — The sore knees that ended Nate Costa’s playing days as the University of Oregon’s quarterback have also ended his career plans as a police officer in Springfield.

He tweaked a knee Aug. 22 while running an obstacle course on the first day of training at the Oregon Public Safety Academey in Salem.

Costa told The Register Guard (http://bit.ly/qqIuYS ) on Thursday that doctors advised him to pull out of the academy.

Costa says he’ll continue working as a football analyst for Comcast SportsNet.
