OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington’s prepaid tuition program now costs $163 a unit. The Guaranteed Education Tuition Committee set the new rate this week, to make up for this year’s college tuition increases.

One GET unit cost $117 before the increase.

All GET units purchased since May 1, will be billed at the new rate. So will new accounts opened when the enrollment period starts on Nov. 1.

Last year, families opened 15,280 new GET accounts as they watched college tuition going up in the state of Washington.

People who prepay college tuition through the GET program can use those units to pay for school. One hundred units are equivalent to a year of tuition at Washington’s most expensive university. Less expensive schools require fewer units to pay for a year of tuition.
