NEW YORK (AP) — Toronto Blue Jays minor league outfielder Melvin Garcia has been suspended 50 games for violating baseball’s drug policy.

Garcia tested positive for an amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance banned by baseball’s Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Garcia is on the roster of the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays based in Dunedin, Fla. His suspension will be effective at the start of next season.

The commissioner’s office announced the penalty Friday.
