DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) — Jonathan Carkhuff threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to lead Davidson past Lenoir-Rhyne 28-10 on Saturday night.

The Wildcats (1-1) have won four of their last six games against the NCAA Division II Bears, but still trail 9-8 in the series which began in 1910.

Davidson, coming off a 40-16 loss at Georgetown, led 7-0 when Lenoir-Rhyne got to the Wildcats 22 early in the second quarter. Peter Kidwell intercepted a Major Herron pass at the goal line, then Davidson drove 80 yards, culminating in a 4-yard touchdown pass from Carkhuff to Jonathan Adams.

Carkhuff, who was 36 of 49 and had his second straight 300-yard game, found Adams again for a 29-yard score as time expired in the first half.

Although Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1) amassed 352 total yards compared to Davidson’s 400, the Bears’ only touchdown came with 58 seconds left on Nick Stutts’ 13-yard pass from Reuben Haynes.
