ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis was not in the posted lineup for the start of a key three-game series at Tampa Bay.
There was no immediate word why Youkilis was not starting in Friday night’s game with the Rays.
The Red Sox held a 612-game lead entering Friday over Tampa Bay in the AL wild-card race.
Tampa Bay did get a key player back for the weekend series. Designated hitter Johnny Damon, who missed the previous three-games because of a sore right leg, was listed as fifth in the Rays’ lineup.
