Samford routs Stillman 48-6 after slow start

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Kelsey Pope scored four touchdowns and Samford overcame a slow start to beat Stillman 48-6 on Saturday night.

Pope ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns, and caught six passes for 52 yards and two scores. Samford (1-1) led 7-6 late in the first quarter but scored the next 41 points. Pope scored on a 29-yard run, then added an 8-yard touchdown catch from Dustin Taliaferro for a 21-6 lead with 9:07 remaining in the half and the Bulldogs never looked back.

Corey White’s 22-yard interception return with 8:59 to play in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs a 28-6 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs piled up 473 yards in total offense, including 304 yards rushing on 43 carries. Stillman (1-1) was held to only four first downs and 54 yards total offense in the second half.

Taliaferro completed 14 of 19 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
