LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Officials in Washington are trying to determine if a man who was convicted of raping women in Idaho and Washington still meets the criteria of being a sexually violent predator.

The Lewiston Tribune (http://bit.ly/eqraLC ) reports that if officials determine that Monte Hoisington no longer meets that criteria, he may be released from the Special Commitment Center at McNeil Island where he’s been held for the past decade.

When Sharon Fuller heard the news, she took action. Fuller says Hoisington broke into her home in 1977 and raped her best friend at knifepoint.

She’s launched a petition drive to keep Hoisington committed and she’s called the Washington Attorney General’s office to object.

Hoisington’s attorney says he’s old and has health problems and no longer poses a threat.
