DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Reggie Bush has been reduced to a footnote in the wake of the Miami Dolphins’ season opener, and that’s not the role they envision for him.

Even with 20 touches, his highest total in three years, Bush was overshadowed by Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who riddled the Dolphins’ defense Monday night in a 38-24 victory.

Bush embraced his trade this summer from New Orleans to Miami because his new team pledged to make him the feature back. He played nearly every snap in Game 1.

Bush made the Dolphins more dynamic on offense, and they gained 488 yards, their third-highest total since 1990. But the defense spent much of the night trying to keep up with Brady, and failing.
