OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (AP) — Defending champion Mina Hardin won two matches Tuesday to advance to the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur quarterfinals.

Hardin, of Fort Worth, Texas, defeated Denise Desilet of Wichita, Kan., 4 and 2, in the morning, then cruised past Brenda Pictor of Marietta, Ga., 5 and 4.

Fellow Texan and former champion Anna Schultz of Rockwall also moved on. Schultz, who won in 2007, defeated Alexandra Frazier of Haverford, Pa., 5 and 4, then played a terrific approach shot to 18 to top Leigh Klasse, 51, of St. Anthony, Minn., 1 up in the afternoon.

Hardin next plays Susan Rheney, 52, of Greensboro, Ga., and Schultz’s next match is against 64-year-old Nancy Smith, the oldest of the quarterfinalists.

Medalist Lisa Schlesinger was among the other winners.
