FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Former baseball star Manny Ramirez has been released from jail after deputies say he struck his wife during an argument.

The 2004 World Series MVP walked out of a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., jail Tuesday after spending the night.

Earlier, Broward Circuit Judge Jon Hurley set bail at $2,500 and ordered Ramirez not to contact his wife, Juliana.

Broward sheriff’s arrested the 39-year-old Ramirez on Monday. They say he was arguing with his wife when he slapped her, causing her to hit her head on their bed’s headboard. She told the deputy she feared the situation would escalate.

Authorities say Ramirez denied hitting her.

He retired in April from the Tampa Bay Rays rather than face a 100-game suspension. He had tested positive a second time for a performance-enhancing substance.
